Course Overview

The Liquor Licensing and Public Entertainments Act 2021 regulates the sale and consumption of alcohol. Any person working in licensed premises must have a basic understanding of the law and how they apply it.

This award fulfils the legislative requirements for all staff selling or serving alcohol to demonstrate they use due diligence using an easy-to-follow interactive eLearning module. Carrying CPD accreditation, and approved by the Isle of Man Government Department of Home Affairs, this course helps you work towards compliance with the licensing legislation and understand the requirement around selling and supplying alcohol.

Who should take the course

This course is designed for any person in a role that involves the sale of alcohol or the serving of alcohol within any premises holding an ‘on-licence‘, an ‘off-licence’ or a ’club-licence’, for instance, bar or counter service or any person serving alcohol in a restaurant.

PLEASE NOTE this course is not designed for a person holding the role of a Licensee, Responsible Person or Authorised Person. If your role is a Responsible or Authorsied person for a licence, you should enrol on the Responsible/Authorised Person training applicable for your premises.

The course covers topics to assist the learner to fulfil statutory requirements around: The legal basis of the requirement for training of staff selling or serving alcohol • The Licensing objectives • The definition of alcohol • What constitutes an unlicensed sale • The different types of licence conditions • Offences under the Liquor Licensing & Public Entertainments Act 2021 • Proof of age checking • Best practice as regards service and refusing service • Units of alcohol and alcoholic strength • Sensible drinking • Good practice in managing conflict situations
