Course Overview

You cannot apply to be a Licensee or a Responsible person for an off-licence on the Isle of Man without having achieved this Manx Licensing law (off-licence) award.

This online course is part -1- of a two part course is designed to provide the knowledge required of a Licensee or Responsible person, covering the legal responsibilities outlined in the Liquor Licensing and Public Entertainments Act 2021 and associated legislation.

Who should take this course?

Licensees, Managers, Assistant Managers, and other staff members seeking appointment on the DHA Register as a Responsible person for an off-licence.

Course Content

This course will provide the learner a clear understanding of the framework of law and regulation underpinning the responsibilities of the Licensee and Responsible person role, including Premises licence and operating conditions, Drunkenness, Drugs, Police powers and rights of entry, Legal and social issues affecting a licence, Protection of children, Conflict management, and Communication.

How to complete the Award

Step 1: Book using the online booking system and pay the fee. You will receive a code to gain entry to the eLearning portal to complete the course.

Step 2: After completing the e-learning course, you will then complete your examination via the same web portal.

Important information

Once you have gained this award you need to apply for a place on the Manx Level 2 Award in Licensed premises operations training. Both awards must be completed successfully before making application to be a Licensee or Responsible person.
